The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has launched a time-limited compliance campaign to help companies resolve outstanding statutory filing issues with reduced enforcement exposure. The campaign runs from 16 April 2026 to 30 September 2026 and is aimed at companies carrying historical or accumulated non-compliance.
What the Campaign covers
The initiative allows companies to regularize overdue filings, including annual returns (AR), financial statements (FS), and beneficial ownership (BO) information.
The relief on offer
Participants may benefit from reduced or waived compounds and temporary exemption from prosecution, subject to compliance with the campaign requirements.
Extended lodgement timelines
Companies are given extended periods to file overdue documents, including up to 3 months to lodge overdue AR and BO information, up to 6 months to lodge overdue FS, and up to 3 months to apply for striking off inactive companies where applicable.
Why this matters
Outstanding statutory filings expose companies and their directors to escalating penalties, prosecution risk, and ongoing regulatory scrutiny. Outside of a limited-time campaign, clearing several years of backlog is often costly and administratively complex. This initiative is a rare opportunity to address historic non-compliance at substantially reduced cost and enforcement risk. Early action is important, as reviewing historical records, reconstructing accounts, and coordinating filings typically requires significant time.
